The Sharon Historical Society is dedicated to preserving and sharing Sharon’s rich history with our community and beyond.  Our volunteers maintain archival records, curate displays, and organize events such as craft fairs, lectures on local history, hikes to places of historical interest, and more. We also welcome visitors to our museum to view documents and artifacts of historical significance, to learn the history of their homes and neighborhoods, and to learn how to do archival and ancestral research.  

From schoolchildren to retirees, Sharon residents benefit from having a window into the past, and into the contributions and sacrifices of ancestors who paved the way for life in modern-day Sharon.

The Sharon Historical Society has a relatively modest annual budget of approximately $30,000 to maintain our museum building and to sponsor community events such as “Reading Frederick Douglass Together” and honoring our veterans every November. Most of that is covered by a combination of membership dues, craft fairs, flea markets, ads in the quarterly Heritage Hunter newsletter, small grants, and interest on the endowment provided by the late Robert Donnell.

Unlike many local historical societies, the Historical Society receives no town funding. The balance comes from the generous donations of members and other Sharon residents who understand and appreciate the importance of our town's rich and diverse heritage and work tirelessly to preserve it.
